Buying a home is a serious, important and personal decision and I think it's critical that when it comes to making this decision that you really keep in mind your needs, not your wants and not the influence of others. Societal conventions will push you to get more, but more doesn't also mean better. There are many advantages to having a smaller home. Along with the cost, the second is the environmental footprint.Read More
With that, I thought I would do a quick round up of items I've found at TJMaxx that are eco-friendly. For me, there's a TJMaxx, Homegoods or Marshalls within a 1 mile proximity of where I live and I know it's a common store so hopefully this will be helpful for those that don't want to buy online and those that don't want to have to go to a specialty store. Big caveat here too that you do not need to buy anything new to start living a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Use what you have. Wear it out and then invest in products that last a long time. Second caveat here too is that places like TJMaxx can get you to spend on things that are unnecessary.Read More
When we finally settled, my own habits started to clash a little bit with my parents. Of course, if you've been following a few of the articles in this blog, you know I like to do a bunch of crazy projects (hence the blog name) so it wasn't a surprise when the friction started to happen. My parents have been very supported of my new minimalist, eco-friendly, low sugar lifestyle and part of my secret goal was to also try to convert them into my ways. So we didn't end up moving to the West Coast for many reasons, but here's what I've learned about trying to influence my parents to follow a more eco-friendly lifestyle.Read More
"We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.
Another year winds down and I'm now already preparing for 2018. Last year, I wrote a post on my search for a good notebook to capture all of my ideas, quotes, notes, etc. I ended up using Ink and Volt for the year, but supplemented it with another notebok. I'm now reviewing the words, ideas and things I wrote and I love that I was able to capture it all.
Without further ado and in no particular order, here's the list of eco-friendly planners and notebooks for 2018. I have not selected my final notebook for 2018, but I will update once I decide.Read More
Since learning about the zero waste movement, I've learned a lot in the past year. I've learned some of the lingo being used. I've learned key takeaways. I've learned the core necessities of a zero waster. While I am not 100% a zero waster (who really is though?), I'm striving to be. Here are some of the lessons I've learned on this journey in an A-Z format. Left side is key phrases I've started to live by and the right side as some of the object essentials.Read More

As 2016 winds down, it's time to start planning for 2017. One of the goals I have for 2017 is to be more present with journaling, with making goals, with writing, with reflection. The best way to do that is to make sure you have a nice, effective journal or planner that you want to take out everyday. I've been searching for a new one for the upcoming year. I've always loved organization and carried my Trapper Keeper for four years in high school with specific tabs for each subject.Read More

It's kind of sad that we stop talking about alternative forms of energy when gas prices are down. A few years ago when gas prices were in the $4 range, there was always a story about how to reduce it, how to buy a hybrid, etc. People complained. Hummers stopped being popular. Hybrids were the thing. Everyone called for better mileage. Now, not everyone cares so much, but this shouldn't stop us. There are millions of cars available today and you have the choice and the power to decide what is best for you, but what is also best for the environment.Read More
